A Fine Art Photography 2025 Calendar of Images taken by underwater photographer and artist Cheryl Walsh.  Twelve images include one for each of the twelve months. December’s image, a new favorite, is on the cover.   This includes eight images from photoshoots done during 2024 and 4 popular classics. Each image is specifically chosen for the month it represents.

At the beginning of every month in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, I have gotten to see videos and photos on social media of people changing to a new page in their calendars. Seven years of seeing people enjoying each image still fills my heart with joy every single time. My intention with my photography has always been to bring happiness to people, even if just for a few moments. I’m focused on being grateful for the little things that make life better.  I’ve always considered my artwork a little thing that makes life better.

My calendars are always limited editions, hand-signed and numbered.  As always, there will be a print run of 100.  They always sell out, with the exception of last year, which is why I am offering a limited number of last year’s Calendars at an additional discount in addition to this year’s.

“The Fool” Tarot Card from my Aqua Summersus Tarot Deck

Model Griffin R

The Fool card represents new beginnings, spontaneity, and a carefree attitude toward life. It is often seen as a symbol of trusting the journey and having faith in the unknown. Let go of old habits and beliefs and embrace the excitement of new experiences. It can also indicate a need to take a leap of faith or trust in your instincts and life's journey. Embrace change and trust the journey, even when the path ahead is uncertain and unpredictable. The Fool card can also indicate a time of taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone and a need to trust your instincts and believe in yourself. Sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith and trust that the journey of life will bring you to where you need to be. Griffin really encouraged me to create this Tarot card deck, and I’m forever grateful for his participation. This image speaks volumes about our role as a Fool, beginning our journey to self-enlightenment.

February

“Sakura”

Model Mermaid Alisa

Dress: @glimmerwood

Wig: @pishposhwigs

The national flower of Japan, the cherry blossom or Sakura, represents renewal and optimism. I usually use a two-person romantic photo for the month of February, but this year, I wanted to celebrate the moments I’ve enjoyed alone in the peace and quiet of nature at the Huntington Library and Gardens in Pasadena, California. This photograph reminds me of my favorite piece of music, the “Pastorale” Symphony by Beethoven. Nothing relaxes me more and brings me more peace and optimism. This stunning gown and headpiece include little cherry blossoms and the most perfect shade of pink.  And, of course, Alisa is not only beautiful but being in her presence also brings me a feeling of peace and optimism.

“Sweetpea Sunrise”

Model Mermaid Kairi

Helper - Merman Tempest Justin Garrett

Dress: @glimmerwood

Headpiece by @scarletharlowdesign

Inspired by the classic painting “The Swing” by 18th-century artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard.  I loved how relaxed and carefree Kairi feels.  She is a vision in this stunning gown embellished with tiny sweetpea flowers. The colors and shapes in “The Swing” came to mind as I watched her dance underwater, moving and flowing with both strength and ease.  I incorporated photos I took of the trees at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge, California, during a beautiful, carefree day of leisurely strolling while enjoying nature.  Mermaid Kairi herself is a force of nature, both strong and delicate, swaying in the water while absolutely powerful in her abilities.

In my Four Seasons series, Spring represents new life, new growth, and the importance of our female friends and support systems. She is awash in new life, ever colorful, both delicate and strong.  The flowers represent change, while the bamboo represents steady, strong growth. Stand back and take a look. If you know, you know - yes, that was my intention.

“The Empress” Tarot Card from my Aqua Summersus Tarot Deck

Model Rachel D

Gown: Firefly Path

Headpiece: Los tesoros de la Ayalga

Wig: @epiccosplaywigs

The Empress card depicts motherhood, nurturing, and abundance. It is a reminder to take care of yourself and others and to cultivate a sense of comfort and security in your life. The Empress card can also indicate a time of growth and abundance, both materially and spiritually. When you see this card, it may be a call to pay attention to your relationships and to prioritize self-care.  Rachel is always perfection underwater.  I enjoy her company so much and have so much gratitude to her for her encouragement and help with this Tarot card deck.  She can do no wrong underwater and watching her dance underwater is a huge privilege.

“Jellyfish Queen”

Model Cara The Singapore Mermaid

Mermaid tail and top @finfolkproductions

Headpiece by @merbellastudios

There are no words for how much I enjoy the annual visit of Cara and her wonderful husband.  She comes from Singapore once a year, and I get to photograph her in a new tail.  Her visits are usually very early in the year, and while it never gets very cold here, that time of year is usually a bit chilly.  She’s the consummate professional ane never complains about the cooler weather. And she is always absolutely stunning.  I love how she lights up when she is fully outfitted in her finest mermaid top, tail, and headpiece. She is a true joy, not to mention her very generous heart.  This beautiful little jellyfish is now one of my treasures, as she was so kind to give it to me as a gift. It’s a constant reminder of the joy I feel when she is here with me underwater.

July

“The Aviatrix”

Model Rebecca

Entire outfit from Pendragon Costumes

Wig epic cosplay wigs

I can not believe that I have never once used this image in one of my Calendars.  It’s one of my favorites from when I first started doing underwater photography. Rebecca was the perfect model for this.  I never would have taken the kind of creative chances I have if it werent for Nicole of Pendragon Costumes.  I purchased my first Victorian gown from her and then she gifted me a huge box of extras she had in her sewing room. Her faith in me, along with my faith and trust in her, changed my life. As independant artists I think it’s important that we invest in each other.  Nicole’s most amazing dedication to her craft is astonishing.  Her outfits are always so very well constructed that they come out of the water after hours of use perfect every single time. Every little detail is a symphony. This photograph is my Victorian heroine.  She is fearless.  She has places to go, people to see, things to do and nothing is going to stop her.  She helped me overcome my fear of drowning and enjoy spending longer and longer periods of time under the water.

August

“Perseid”

Model Alisa

Tail by @azuremermaids

Corset, collar and headpiece by Discordia designs

August is my birthday, and every single year, I hear about the miraculous Perseid meteor showers. I love looking up at the sky at night and do so every chance I get.  To this day, I have never ever seen the Perseid or any other meteor shower.  I hope that someday I will.  I’m always very busy in August, and there is too much light pollution for us to see any kind of shooting star where I live. This is my vision of what the night sky might look like while underwater in a crystal lake out in nature, far from the city.  Some day I will get to experience this in person but for now I’ll enjoy this image.

September

“Lionfish Mermaid”

The Singapore Mermaid

@finfolkproductions mermaid tail and top

@wunderland_arts headpiece

This tail is spectacular. When Cara got in the water, it opened up and came to life, flowing exactly like a Lionfish.  She was magical, as always.  The colors are unusual for a mermaid tail, and I loved playing in that color palette. The details and craftsmanship that go into Finfolk's mermaid tails and tops always leave me speechless. They inspire me to always create work that I love and never stop until I feel it is up to their highest standards.

October

“Autumn” from my Four Seasons series

Model Emilie

Discordia headpiece

Mythic Mermaid Tail FinFolk Productions

Emilie flew out from Washington DC for me to photograph her earlier this year.  I’ve had amazing good luck working with her on two separate underwater workshops, and this was the first time I had her in my own underwater studio.  She was obviously spectacular. I really enjoyed spending time with her and was thrilled that she made the trip out here.  I love how powerful she looks, taking up space in all her beauty. The trees in the background are photos I took while in Denver and St. Louis early this year.  I looked up, saw these gorgeous flowering trees and couldn't help myself.  Where I live we get Santa Ana winds and while they can be very destructive, they are also magical and warm. She represents that familiar, powerful, yet somehow comforting force of nature.

November

“Calliope”

Model Jessica D

Outfit by Rachel Day Reilena

Wig Epic Cosplay Wig

Another favorite classic of mine from years ago.  Again, I can’t believe I’ve never used this one in a Calendar before.  It looks very simple and effortless, but I can assure you that it takes a tremendous amount of power to hold it upright under water like this.  Jessica is always absolutely flawless underwater, and spending time with her is a joy. The power in this image speaks for itself.

December

“Winter” from my Four Seasons series

Model Mermaid Kairi

Tail: @finfolkproductions x @merbellastudios

Top & Crown: @merbellastudios

Another image I created while listening to my favorite “Pastorale” Symphony.  More themes of gracefulness and power.  Doing flips like this is really hard, and yet she makes it look effortless. Putting this Four Seasons series together was an exercise in letting go of the strict rules of portrait photography and allowing more flow and spontaneity into my work.  I didn’t choose these images based on the poses falling within those rules but rather on how they made me feel.  I’m so grateful for the opportunity to photograph these amazing women and create this work.  The background was created with multiple photos I took of the stormy ocean from the beach, and then I used painterly techniques to create the old-world painterly feel that I wanted.
